Modifications of the track for F1 2024

Recently the track was updated, so there have been alterations made to the circuit.

Please note that in this blog, we’ll be focusing on providing insights into the track as it existed prior to these changes. However we give an overview on the new parts of the track and the changes of the needed settings. The difference between the previous and the current track can be seen in the number of corners. Due to the modification, 4 low speed corners were taken out between corner 15 and 20. Now, the drivers have the chance to race on the new part, a straight, which provides more opportunity for takeovers. Also, the exiting of corner 14 to the straight became crucial. Here, the racers cannot count on the drs, only the incidental slipstreams will help them taking over and leaving the others behind. There is no need for major changes in the car settings on the new track, however the downforce shall be decreased because of the change. This alteration might result in a more challenging drive in the other low speed parts of the track. And now, back to the previous layout!

To maximize your potential on the track, it's crucial to strike a balance with your suspension settings. While stiffer suspension might seem tempting to tackle for easier turning of the car, you have to consider the curbs on this track. It is worth using all of the curbs, but be cautious as the SIngapore track has rather high ones. This is why it is suggested to ride the painted part of the curb only, and make sure to go on it with just the wheels and not the whole car. With a stiffer suspension, these curbs cannot be used as efficiently, because it can lead to undesirable consequences and throw off the car. This technique shall be used throughout the track, except corners 1, 2, and 10 where it is highly recommended to cut through the inner lines. For these sections the suspension firmness has to be chosen carefully due to the many 90 degree turns, so a responsive setting is needed, but there is a bigger camber and toe out that helps.

Tire temperature management

Overheated tires can be a real challenge, particularly the rear ones, as you exit the numerous low and medium-speed, 90 degree turns. Maintaining optimal tire temperature is paramount to avoid compromising your performance. But, during races, resist the urge to force a hard braking distance, as Sector 3 demands optimal grip. Maintaining your tires within their operational range is vital to ensuring the necessary traction and acceleration through this critical corner.

Corner 18

Corner 18 presents a hair-raising challenge, requiring absolute control over your braking distance. Miscalculating this aspect can lead to a disastrous collision with the wall. If you find yourself unsure about taking the turn, resist the temptation to force it. Instead, opt for the run-off area to avoid a potential crash.
